Pano Petali
The veranda of Sifnos to the East
Pano Petali is the settlement built on the hill between the villages of Apollonia and Artemonas. In Greek, “petali” means a rocky flat hill, hence its name. It is the village that offers the most beautiful view towards East, as anyone can overlook the sea and all the central settlements up to the Castle.
At the western boundaries of the settlement, we find the church of Saint John the Theologian and the neighborhood named after it, called “Theologaki”.
Continuing uphill, we reach the neighborhood of Saint John that is also the parish of the settlement. The courtyard of this church offers a breathtaking view. Nearby, we used to find one of the oldest traditional coffeehouses of the island, called “The Felos” (the cork).
Truly remarkable is the church of Agios Antipas due to its architecture. The houses around it form the neighborhood of Agios Antipas. Here, during the Greek Revolution, a preparatory school was fully operational (1821-1825), founded by the great teacher and fighter N. Chrisogelos.
To the west of the settlement, we find the neighborhoods of Patsanas and Trava Vounia, sparsely populated with farmlands.
